Garry Jonas: Sammy Vasquez Will Use Collazo Fight To Boost Career

Garry Jonas from PROBOX Management believes that Sammy Vasquez Jr. 21-1-0 (15 KO’s) has the potential to regain the proper footing for his career in 2017 after suffering his first career defeat last year to Olympic gold medal winner Felix Diaz. Vasquez Jr. will face experienced former world champion Luis Collazo 36-7-0 on February 4 at Horseshoe Casino, Tunica, Mississippi in a 10-round bout.

“Sammy Vasquez Jr. is a warrior, he has the character to go forward, and this opportunity against Collazo will be Sammy’s return to the big fights. He is at the best level and will soon be challenging boxers like Danny Garcia, Keith Thurman, Errol Spence Jr. and the best out there at welterweight,” Jonas said.

“In the same way that Vasquez Jr. did, we do not want to make any excuses about his defeat in the last fight. I just want to say that we at PROBOX and PBC, we are convinced that this year Sammy Vasquez Jr. will return to the big fights.”

Collazo is a very experienced fighter who has faced great challenges in his career – with boxers like Shane Mosley, Amir Khan, Victor Ortiz, Ricky Hatton and Keith Thurman on his record. Collazo has won and lost against the best possible opposition, and this fight against Vasquez Jr. will display whether or not Sammy is at a top best level.

“I think Collazo is a tough fighter, crafty and has a lot of will. I think our fight will be great but I’m coming back to show the best of me that anyone has ever seen. My loss with Diaz doesn’t affect me at all and it is what it is, now I have everything taken care of, I’m hungrier than ever. I think the loss helped me in the fact that people won’t duck me anymore and make them think they’ve seen a weakness,”  said Vasquez Jr.

Vasquez Jr. is taking this fight very seriously. His workouts are intense and he hopes to arrive in the best condition to resume his place from the very start of 2017.

“Sammy is a pro, he prepares for each fight with determination and that is what will stamp his name again with the big fights,” concludes Jonas.
